Your first hundred hours

Warframe is generous with content and stingy with direction. It will hand you a dozen systems in the first ten hours and explain roughly two of them, which is why so many new players stall somewhere around the third planet feeling like they missed a step.

You did not miss a step. There is just no order given. Here is one.

Finish the star chart first

Almost everything gates behind star chart progress: missions, syndicates, resources, the open worlds, and eventually Steel Path. Unlocking nodes and clearing junctions is the single highest-value thing you can do early.

Junctions demand specific tasks before they open — craft a particular item, reach a mastery rank, complete a quest. These are not filler. They are the game’s actual tutorial, spread out. Do them when you hit them rather than putting them off, because each one you leave behind narrows what you can reach later.

Mods matter more than gear

This is the one that takes people longest to believe.

An unmodded top-tier weapon is worse than a well-modded starter weapon. Not slightly — substantially. The mod system is where the numbers live, and a weapon without it is a shell.

Before chasing new equipment, get the foundational mods and rank them up:

• Serration (primary), Hornet Strike (secondary), Pressure Point (melee) — base damage
• Vitality and Redirection — Warframe health and shields
• Multishot mods for whatever you are using
• One or two elemental mods you can rank

Ranking a mod costs endo and credits, and it is worth more per point spent than almost anything else you could do with either.

If you are wondering why your damage feels flat around Mars, the answer is nearly always an unranked Serration.

The two things to spend platinum on

You get a small amount of platinum free, and new players reliably spend it on a weapon or a frame. Don’t.

Buy slots. Warframe slots and weapon slots. You will hit the cap fast, and the alternative is dismantling things you are still levelling. Slots are cheap and permanently useful.

Buy nothing else yet. Reactors and Catalysts arrive free from alerts, events and the daily login track often enough that paying for them early is a waste. Frames and weapons are all farmable, and farming them teaches you the game.

The exception worth making: if there is a cosmetic you genuinely love, buy it. It is the one thing you cannot farm, and enjoying how your frame looks is a real part of playing this game for a thousand hours.

Pick a frame and commit for a while

You will be handed a starter frame and you will want the shiny ones you see in missions. Resist for a bit.

Rhino is the standard recommendation and it deserves it: his parts drop early, he is simple to build, and Iron Skin makes the mid star chart forgiving while you learn. Excalibur is similar — straightforward, effective, and hard to build badly.

What you want early is a frame that survives its own mistakes. Complexity comes later.

Join a clan

Clan research unlocks a large amount of gear you simply cannot get otherwise — including some of the best early and mid-game weapons in the game.

You do not need an active social clan. Any clan with a built research lab works, and there are large open clans that exist for exactly this purpose. This is a five-minute task that opens a permanent door.

What can wait

• Steel Path — it is the star chart again with tougher enemies. It will still be there.
• Eidolons and arcanes — gated behind gear you will not have yet.
• Railjack, Duviri, the open worlds — good content, all more rewarding once you have a working build.
• Min-maxing — you cannot meaningfully optimise a build before you own the mods that make it work.

What to do this week

1. Push the star chart and clear junctions as they appear.
2. Rank up Serration, Vitality and your multishot mod.
3. Join a clan with a research lab.
4. Buy slots with your starting platinum. Nothing else.
5. Build Rhino or stick with Excalibur, and learn one frame properly.

That is the whole early game. Everything else is downstream of a working star chart and a ranked Serration.
